Muffin, Cuddles and Chester

Muffin was a blond Lhasa Apso we got as a puppy.  We brought her across the country into retirement from the military.  Although she had a bit of a mean streak infrequently, she was overall a loving house pet to our daughter and a good mother to several litters.
This photo of her nursing her last litter includes the only one of  her puppies we kept--Cuddles. muffin.jpg (52910 bytes)
cudmuf.jpg (39485 bytes) Cuddles was the most loving little dog anyone could imagine.  Unlike her mother, she was dark gray, with some white on her chin and chest.  She also had several litters; one of those is in the third photo.  She really was a little cuddler.  Our Mom had a serious stroke and was bedridden, immobile in our home for two and a half years.  Cuddles cuddled up next to her on that hospital bed every day for the entire time.  She would get down to eat, to go outside briefly, to greet us or guests when we came home and to cuddle in the evenings while we watched TV and to sleep in her own doggy bed at night.  She seemed to realize her real job was to keep our Mom company.
Even though we had already lost two dogs to old age--Muffin and a previous wire-haired terrier--watching her go into steep decline and then putting her to sleep was one of the most difficult things we ever had to do.  We have her picture in our den, speak of her often, and think of her every single day.  We really miss Cuddles.
Two years without Cuddles made us start again, with Chester.  Chester looks like the white and gray Lhasa in the second photo (with Cuddles).
Chester is a typical male, much more lively--spirited we suppose.  He doesn't cuddle much yet, but plays with us as Muffin and Cuddles did.  We hope he will become more like Cuddles as he grows.  We love him very much.  All of these wonderful dogs have certainly added to our lives. chester.jpg (57773 bytes)
